What is the safest cooking oil to use?

I have read studies linking the use of common vegetable oils to cancer...especially colon cancer. I know olive oil is good but it's very costly. Is peanut oil a safer alternative? Any oil experts out there? Thank you for your time! What is the safest cooking oil to use?
Canola oil or olive oil is the best. You won't find cheap oil in either case, but it is best to use them. Peanut oil is high in fat (the bad kind) but for some dishes once in awhile is okay. Nut oils are good too, but usually geared toward salad and certain cuisines. They are not suitable for everyday cooking. What is the safest cooking oil to use?
Smart Balance makes an olive oil blend which is less costly - still much better than regular vegetable oil.
