Regarding using cooking oil to fuel deisel vehicles?

Has anyone any information or experience of mixing cooking oil with deisel to fuel deisel powered cars.

If so is it legal, and is any conversion to the vehicle required, and must the oil be mixed with deisel, and at what ratio.Regarding using cooking oil to fuel deisel vehicles?
You're supposed to pay the Inland Revenue a certain amount per litre used for it to be legal in the uk.

Chech out these...

you can run a diesel engine on straight vegetable oil, but it must be filtered to remove any impurities that might clog the injectors, unless you are using new oil, and the oil must be heated to around 170 degrees F. also you cannot start or shut a diesel engine down using vegetable oil, you must use diesel to prevent fuel system problems.
Her is a link there is plenty of sites out there have a look I think you are allowed 2500 miles before you have to pay any tax on it but don't quote me on that it could be 25000 my nephew runs his old diesel Astra on cooking oil alone and has never had any problems but standing down wind of the car it smells like a chip shop

I know of a Poulterer who drives his bus on 1/3 diesel, 1/3 sunflower oil, 1/3 poultry fat (rendered from making Pate and such).

I always LMAO when he drives by, because I get hungry for chicken.

It's really illegal btw, it's tax-evasion
The diesel can burn lube oil . The main problem is to filter it so that there is nothing in it to plug your injectors.
You can't just put staight vegetable oil in there. You would need to convert it to biodiesel. Or, you would need to make some modifications to the engine to allow it to run on straight vegetable oil.
I heat my wvo to 170 degrees.I start and shut down on diesel, then switch to veg driving. Its legal in my state.

everything you want to know on how to make bio diesel
its legal alright. mix 50/50 in your tank and just turn the key. or make a separate tank for oil and let it switch it over electronically. dont do either of these if your vehicle uses bosch fuel pump. theyre no use. hope this helps.

also the legal amount of veg oil you can use per year tax free is 2500litres. uk. but it will be taxed soon. germany alreaddy has!

that guy above me is full of crap.
You will need to filter it . If you use more than a relatively small proportion, the engine needs to be rigged for it. Road tax liability needs to be investigated.

It's not a fuel source solution. There's not enough to make much difference. I don't think it's a pollution answer either. I suspect it's energy output is lower than petroleum. That may relate to combustion efficiency, but more probably to density.
It is now legal to make your own bio fuel from vegetable matter for your own use, in limited quantities. Details are easily available on the net. Just do a google search.

Try http://greenfuels.co.uk/ for starters
As stated above by others using pure vegetable oil or using it alone, does not work well in diesels. However it does work better as a fuel for a steam engine boiler. Use a safe water tube boiler of the Lamont type and use the steam to power a lightweight and efficient steam engine to turn a generator which can keep the batteries in a plug-in short-range electric vehicle charged. Cut fuel use by about 80% and make far less pollution. It will all fit in a regular car too.

Any fuel will be subject to tax. If you could run your car on sunlight, the government would tax sunlight, BECAUSE THEY CAN!!! No one will stand up and vote them out, because the politicians and the media won't allow it.
