What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil?

I have oil that I have been frying with and it needs disposing of. We don't fry very often and I used to put the oil into a container and then just put it in with the general waste - is this stilll the correct way to do things? What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil?
It depends on where you live. Check with your local landfill. Here, we're allowed to do what you did...put it in a tightly sealed container and put that in our waste bin. What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil?
your local council should have a place you can take the used oil. you should NOT just chuck it in the bin. If it's a minimal amount (like less than 4 tablespoons), you're ok to wash it down the drain, but if you have over that, you need to dispose of it safely. Look on your councils website, and that should help.
I generally dribble it down the sink with HOT HOT water running at the same time. If you have an open fire (as I do) you can soak old newspapers in the oil, wring it out and use as fuel. Bit messy to do but it saves wasting it...........
That's how I still do it.

Or you could just pour in a random diesel car without any experience or knowledge of bio-diesel and how to properly filter it, like everyone else is talking about.
Pour the grease into an empty soup can and place it in your freezer. When the can finally gets full, it can de thrown away with the rest of your trash. No fuss, no mess.
I usually pour it into an empty can, put in a sealed bag then bin it. Check locally if someones collecting waste oil for bio diesel.
Use it in oil lamps. If you don't have lamps make some with glasses or glass bottles. Make very good mood lighting specially in gardens.
Filter it and add it to the fuel of a deisel engined car. It will run just fine.
You can use it in a diesel car or oil boiler
in a diesel car, used to be called waste now its bio-fuel
pour it doon the sink with hot water right behind it thats what i do ive never had a blocked sink....yet
Put it on your dog's food :)
thats what i do
naw...just sling it in your neighbours bin...lol
