Why we cannot use cooking oil as a fuel for automobiles when we use crude oil for this purpose?

I mean, it can be a way to reduce the chances of reduction of fossil fuels in nature! Why we cannot use cooking oil as a fuel for automobiles when we use crude oil for this purpose?
You can, in some diesel engines. The problem is that if we were to use ALL of our waste vegetable oil as fuel, this would only supply about 1% of our nation's fuel needs.

I don't object to it at all. It's a nice idea, but it's not the solution. My family burns 30 gallons of gas a week. We do not (and neither does anyone else) have 30 gallons of waste fats every week. Why we cannot use cooking oil as a fuel for automobiles when we use crude oil for this purpose?
Cooking oil is mainly vegetable oil. Crude oil comes from the ground and is more abundant. Also, crude oil has to be processed and separated into the different grades before they can be used as fuel for automobiles.

Currently, some people use bio fuel, which is made from vegetables like corn and oil balsam. However, it requires a different kind of engine and is more expensive. Since petrol is more abundant, people stick to it.
On special ”multi-fuel” vehicles that use an injection system instead of a down draft carburettor several types of liquid can be use for power, even cooking oil, the problems are the cooking oil is a low grade combustible that produces a very weak explosion and requires a greater amount\volume to produce that same energy requirement when compared to other combustibles’ that it considered to be impractical for common use. The second problem is the emissions from the cooking oil would be difficult to remove from the exhaust system.

In the South Pacific islands during WWII coconut oil was used by several people the power their cars and generators.
Simply put.. we can use cooking oil as a fuel in many things. Typically cooking oil is an effective substitute only for Diesel fuel. To use it is gasoline engines takes special modifications to the engine.

However, we will never be able to offset all our need for crude with cooking oil.. there is simply not enough cooking oil to fuel all our diesel cars.. much less all our cars.
jason is right. bio-diesel is the fuel of the future. it is renewable; you can grow it in your garden. the problem is that if the use becomes universal, these oil seed crops will compete for land with food crops. we have to guard against that.

bio-diesel is not popular because these huge multi-billion dollar world monopolies making all of us for their profits will not let up. they have controlled the entire industry to such an extent that bio-diesel use on a commercial scale is not allowed now.
You can .. its called bio-diesel. It will run clean in any diesel engine unmodified. You can make the stuff in your own garage and collect the oil from local restaurants. You do not need to heat it or add any chemicals to it like you see some doing. All you really have to do is filter it real good.
We cannot use cooking oil for automobiles because it will cause the engines to cease as the particles it has really sticky ,cooking oil is not as greasy as crude oil.
Fossil fuel is just aged used cooking oil.Plants produced our present supply of fossil fuel , and will continue. Plants recycle CO2 into O2 ,but the plant keeps the C where our oil %26amp; gas comes from.
because crude oihas more energy to power cars
fossil fuels are cost effictive cooking oil is not
