When storing cooking oil in beverage containers, will traces of remaining water, soda, or juice interfere?

I understand the idea of just throwing it out if it appears black, and putting a strainer on the container to pour it through if still looking reusable. I'm just wondering if any traces or few drips from the beverages mixing with the oil will have any significant effect on the next use? So I'm guessing it's definitely a good idea to rinse and dry the container first before storing oil in it?When storing cooking oil in beverage containers, will traces of remaining water, soda, or juice interfere?
Actually, you should NOT store and re-use your oil at all. Cooking oil that has been heated twice changes in chemical composition and causes free radicals (elements of a destructive nature) in our bodies. Understanding free radicals is too long for this forum, but you can go to nutrition websites and learn more. That means you should store the oil in re-seal-able containers and send it out with the garbage.

Some communities have you put the oils and fats from cooking on the curb when your garbage is to be picked up, and some just have you put them in the garbage can. But do not use oil that has been heated twice. Two times is okay, though. When storing cooking oil in beverage containers, will traces of remaining water, soda, or juice interfere?
Used cooking oil isn't re-used because it's carcinogenic. I'm not sure of juice traces blending in but that's the least of your worries
Well there you have it...you answered your own question! Rinse and dry!

Cleaning up cooking oil spill?

My 4 year old managed to pour about 3 cups of cooking oil out on the hardwood floor in the playroom. I've mopped and mopped and it's still slippery. Any tips?Cleaning up cooking oil spill?
Get some SALT, BAKING SODA, or anything absorbent. Let it soak it up for a bit. Then sweep or wipe up the mess, do it TOWARD the center of the spill to avoid spreading leftover oil and making an even bigger spot. THEN, get you some GREASE LIGHTNING. You can get it at walmart. This should take it right off! I use it like CRAZY for greasy, oily messes. Also, dish washing liquid with extra strength grease fighting power will work, you just may have to do it a few times!Cleaning up cooking oil spill?
Wet mopping won't really help you on this because the water in the mop will not only repel the oil it can damage your hardwood.

I'd go after it with dry absorbent cloths, just keep rubbing it and changing your cloths.
I would throw baking soda, salt, cat litter, sand or even flour over the area. Once it has soaked up all it can, you can just scoop it up with a spatula and then wipe the area down as usual. Any of these methods will work without spreading the mess everywhere.
I wonder if vinegar might help to cut it down. I don't know how that would work on the wood itself. Maybe if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's, someone might be able to help you, or point you in the direction of some kind of solvent that wouldn't be harmful to your floor.
Blot it first with paper towels or newspaper or something to absorb the extra oil. After that, use full strength dish washing liquid, preferably Dawn. Absorb that (you can use a mop this time) and then gradually use water until the dish washing liquid is gone.
pour some baking soda or salt on and sweep it around- those are pretty absorbent and should get a good amount up.
I'm just guessing here, but nothing cuts grease better than alcohol..maybe a little rubbing alcohol in the mop water?
cat litter...baby powder....baking soda...anything that will absorb the oil....if these dont do it..try using degreaser in small areas...as it is hardwood flooring..

How do you dispose of cooking oil?

Cooking oil should not be poured down drains. Cooking oil, such as that used for frying can often be reused. Once the oil has cooled pour into a plastic bottle and dispose with normal domestic waste. Alternatively you could dispose the cooking oil by tipping it onto soil in your garden as it contains many minerals which are very good for the soil. How do you dispose of cooking oil?
I save bottles or cans-preferable w/ lids. make sure the oil is cool before pouring-esp if using plastic containersHow do you dispose of cooking oil?
mix it with cold running water as you pur it down the drain. of you dont mix it, your drain will clog.
umm...garbage? or down the drain.
I pour the used oil in an empty oil jug or milk jug and put it out with the garbage.
you re-use it
you cant put it in the sink because it clogs it up you have to put it in a cup and wait until it gets hard (not very long) and put it in the trash can it is not hazardous waste or anything but you just cant put it in the sink
Either let it run down the drain %26amp; follow it with hot hot water for about 5min or put it in a container %26amp; let it harden then throw it in the trash can. Cold water will make it harden %26amp; clog pipes. Your best bet is to clean it ASAP %26amp; use the hot water b/c it's messy when it hardens %26amp; if the container is worth keeping you have to worry about making a mess getting it out of there.
I usually just pour it outside in the woods behind our house. If that isn't good for you save the bottles that oil comes in or any other type of bottle and pour your old oil in it and discard in the trash.
I have a can I dump it into, then dump it in the trash. If I had a maker, I'd make biodiesel out of it.
I would put it in a jar of some sort %26amp; throw it in the trash. It will only clog your drains.
make it into biodiesel!

=P

Have fun saving the world!!!
I pour it on the ground in the woods.
If you have an empty water/soda/juice bottle, then you could put the cooking oil in that - just let the oil cool down first.
If you have a little bit (home cooking), just run it down the drain with hot water. If you have a lot (restaurant cooking) you'll need to get a hold of another restaurant and ask them how they dispose of theirs. Most restaurants have it picked up by a service.
not down the drain,,,stop it up
since its not a harmful substance it can be put in a trash but to keep it cleaner you might need to put it in a bottle. or you could just put it down the sink
The best thing to do is poor the oil in a vegtable can and let it harden, once it hardens you can throw it in the trash. If you dont have a can you can dump it down the sink with hot hot water running behind it. Make sure its hot water because if its cold it can make the oil harden in your drain pipes and cause a clog in the drain.
I save old milk cartons place some paper towels in there and put oil in there once the oil has cooled off.
If its just a little bit then I just wash it down the sink. If it's a lot you could always re-use it?
turn on the hot water as hot as possible and pour down the drain, mixing it with the water
Pure it in large coffee can and then trash it when the can is filled
Pour it into another container, like a soda bottle or an empty mayonnaise jar, seal it, and throw in garbage; or use lots of paper towels to help soak it up if you can't find a sealable container. Whatever you do, do NOT pour it down the drain. It can clog your pipes and cost you lots of money for a plumber. Oil and grease also causes havoc with the city sewage system.
dump it outside..
i don't know if ur supposed to, but i pour mine down the sink then clean it with the specialist sink/drainage products... nothings happend so far!!!
down the drain

How long can you keep cooking oil stored in its original container? Does it ever go stale, or ';spoil';?

My friend has some cooking oil that is 6 years old! He insists that oil never stales, and that it's safe to use forever! I beg to differ, although the oil looks oaky, who is right? oil will keep indefinitly but in time all food oxidizes and that changes flavor color and taste not to good. best to always use fresh products.
    Oil does go bad!

I would not want to eat anything cooked in old oil.
yes oil gets old and it may have a funny taste and smell, but it will not hurt you. It will make your food taste funny. But if it is mold do not use because there is something besides oil in the bottle.
i'VE NEVER REALLY HAD IT SPOIL OR GO STAIL ON ME AND I DONT REALLY USE MINE A WHOLE LOT. SO I'D SAY JUST SMELL IT OR SOMETHING BEFROE YOU USE IT.....LOL
no...oil does go stale...it develops a sticky feeling and smells too...why take the risk of posing serious health hazards like cancer? better use hygienic stuff and renew ur oil in intervals...
Depends on the type of oil as to how long it will take. Certain nut oils will go bad VERY VERY fast, much like the nut itself will go rancid fast. These oils, you may want to keep in the freezer. (mostly oils for flavor, i.e. sesame oil)

Olive oil will last longer than those nut oils, but you will be able to tell a flavor difference when they have started to go bad. Until the flavor is unbearable, you can use olive oil that has started to go bad as regular pan frying oil. Make sure you keep these in a cool dark place.

Most safflower/sunflower/peanut/vegetable oils will last a LONG LONG time as long as it isn't hot, or in direct sunlight.

I think it has to do with the monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and polysaturated natures ... or something like that.
umm...i wouldn't keep it unused for over 6 months.

How can I get a cooking oil stain out of a cotton shirt?

I didnt discover the stain until I had already washed and dried it.How can I get a cooking oil stain out of a cotton shirt?
Make a paste of baking soda and a liquid dish soap, such as Dawn. Apply it to the stained area and let it sit for 20 minutes or so. Launder as usual in the hottest water safe for the fabric. How can I get a cooking oil stain out of a cotton shirt?
Get some Simple Green. It's a spray cleaner that's available in hardware, automotive and some grocery and discount stores like Wal-Mart. Give the stain a good spray, let it lay for a good hour and wash. Might have to do this a couple of times.

The next best and it might work is Dawn dish detergent. It's a maybe but if you have it, try it and see.
I work in a restaurant and always am getting oil or grease on me. Sometimes I don't see it until it comes out of dryer. I am a firm believer in spray n wash. I have even bought things from yard sales and brought them home and used it on them and the stains come out.
I've also heard that Dawn works well. I haven't tried it yet. They use it on wildlife that gets covered in oil so that says alot :) I just bought that new oxyclean laundry spray and it works pretty well. It helps to let it sit overnight tho.

Is it OK to use cooking oil to lubricate a bicycle chain?

I was under the impression that its not.Is it OK to use cooking oil to lubricate a bicycle chain?
It's probably not the best bet.

Stick with the spray on chain-lube they sell at walmart/kmart instead. You don't necessarily have to go to a bike shop.

It is designed to stick to the chain and keep it lubed up - but not be as sticky, so dirt and stuff doesn't build up. Depending on how much you ride, and the conditions you ride in, you should occasionally soak your chain to get dirt and stuff off of it (I usually use carburetor cleaner for some reason), slap it back on and give it a good spraydown with the lube, and you will get more life out of your chain. Is it OK to use cooking oil to lubricate a bicycle chain?
Only If you have nothing else, a rusty chain will cease up and the links wont flex similarly if you use this oil too frequently it will attract all the dirt, grit, dust etc and eventually fail in some way.

Keep your cooking oil for the Kitchen I say, but by all means use it if you have absolutely nothing else.
Old saying; In a pinch the wrong lube is better then no lube.

But veggie oil is not a good choice for long term lube.

There are plenty of petrolium based oils that work well for bike chains.
If for no other reason, cooking oil is not a good idea because it is too viscous (thick). Bicycle chains should be lubricated with a light machine oil, not as light as sewing machines perhaps, but closer to that viscosity.

  • How do you turn used cooking oil into diesel or a fuel that works in diesel engines?

I saw it on Mythbusters. How do you turn used cooking oil into diesel or a fuel that works in diesel engines?
I don't know but read this

Biodiesel is produced from any fat or oil such as soybean oil, through a refinery process called transesterification. This process is a reaction of the oil with an alcohol to remove the glycerin, which is a by-product of biodiesel production. Fuel-grade biodiesel must be produced to strict industry specifications (ASTM D6751) in order to insure proper performance. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Biodiesel that meets ASTM D6751 and is legally registered with the Environmental Protection Agency is a legal motor fuel for sale and distribution. Raw vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications, it is not registered with the EPA, and it is not a legal motor fuel.

That grout removal answer is fine if you want the extra work. Did you try some kind of cleaner that cuts cooking grease and oil? There is a product called Complex-DL that we use at work that is super on grease and oil. It is commercial so you would have to try a commercial store, and it might take a couple of applications.

If all else fails try a grout whitener, and do the whole floor.

What is most environmentally friendly way to dispose cooking oil?

Is there substance which can make it into solid then dispose it in the bin? What is most environmentally friendly way to dispose cooking oil?
find someone who can convert it to bio dieselWhat is most environmentally friendly way to dispose cooking oil?
Please don't pour lots of oil down the sink. It's ok in the small amounts on dirty plates etc. The sewerage system will remove oil but the more pollutants there are in the water the more it costs to remove it and make the water clean.
Heat it, then throw it on someone.
Throughing it away either in a solid mass or liquid is neither environmentally (sustainable) friendly. If you have a diesel vehicle you can use it in there (you will need to run it through a bio-diesel chamber first). Or contact someone who can use it to make bio-diesel.
Like the others say, call your council to find out where your nearest recycling centre is. Don't just pour it down the drain, as the sewage companies (certainly here in London) have to spend millions of pounds a years unblocking sewage pipes after the congealed fat has built up on the inside of pipes and blocked them.
I've always thrown mine on my mulch pile. I think the 'possoms end up eating it, or sometimes the ants.
Can it up and take it to your nearest council refuse centre

They will have a tank that the old car engine oil goes into and they can add it to that
You can take cooking oil, or any oil to an auto shop and they will dispose of it for you.

It's actually safe to put cooking oil down the drain in your sink. The sewer companies are equipped to handle oil and grease.
Yes, We can dispose cooking oil in environmentally friendly way.

It depends on the viscosity of the oil, ....once the cooking oil mix with water...it is diffcult to dispose environmentally friendly
Ring your local council, they usually have special places to dispose of things like that and unused paint etc.

Is it bad to use olive oil or cooking oil to masturbate?

I'm a guy. Can it cause me some sort of infection? Or is it safe?

I can't buy commercially made lubes as I don't live alone at home and I've got nowhere to keep them hidden. Is it bad to use olive oil or cooking oil to masturbate?
While it's always preferable to use commercial ';lube'; products, there is no medical reason a man shouldn't use *olive oil to masturbate-- Men have been using olive oil for this purpose for centuries!

(I would avoid lotions, as they are usually loaded with scent which can cause irritation)

*It is not safe when combined with Latex condoms because the condom will fail. So be sure you're only using the oil when you're playing ';solo';.Is it bad to use olive oil or cooking oil to masturbate?
I wouldn't use oil simply because it is bad for the skin. Think about it... you try and keep your face from getting oily because of pimples. If you went and started rubbing oil all over your face all the time, your face would start to look gross. You want something water based, or some kind of lotion. If you cant figure out what to use, use conditioner. It works perfectly ... only side affect is it may make your pubes softer :) My mom always used to yell at me, ';Joe! Why do you always run out of conditioner before you run out of shampoo!?'; haha
IF you decide to use olive oil, go for Light Extra Virgin. Normal olive oil has a strong smell to it. Ditto Sesame (don't try it). You can also use grapeseed, coconut (the best), almond, or safflower. They are all perfectly fine, and won't cause pimples. Keep tissues handy to wipe up after, or you can rub it over your skin once you are done. Your skin will absorb it in time.

    Happy jacking!
Just buy baby lotion and say it is for your skin.. or try vaseline instead. by the way, a tube of KY jelly is so small that there are thousands of ways and places to hide it in your room from your parents. How bout sticking it at the back of a drawer? haha
i got a bit bored masturbating and tried different things. i've tried jelly, marmalade and olive oil. so in answer to your question, no its not wrong.
oil is fine as long as its not boiling hot hehehe

if you can use it internally, generally you can use it externally
There's no harm in using the above mentioned.
No dont use it, use a water base substance or buy some lube
    Yeah u can use em........

    No issues.

Have you Tried Fried…WHY NOT…Just might be the best Turkey you’ve ever had! We expect that this will be the easiest to prepare and most flavorful Turkey you’ve ever had. If the oil reaches the correct temperature before submersing the Turkey and the peanut oil is maintained at the proper temperature during the frying process, the heat will sear in the juices and the Bird will not taste greasy.

Here are some Tips and Guidelines Barbeques Galore hopes you can use when Deep Frying that Bird:

    EQUIPMENT:

    SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

    Heavy-duty Gloves with long forearms.

    Safety Glasses

    Non-water based Chemical Fire Extinguisher

    Instant-Read Meat Thermometer

    FRYING EQUIPMENT:

    Turkey Pot (minimum 28 Qt.)

High output Propane burner (minimum 100,000 BTU)

    Long Thermometer (12 inch)

    Marinade Injector

    Injectable Marinade

    Dry Rub (seasoning)

3-5 Gallons of Peanut Oil (depending on size of pot and size of Bird)

    Long-reach butane lighter.

Hey, don’t forget the Turkey. Depending on the size of the pot, 12-13 pound Bird for a 26 QT. Pot, 16-18 pound Bird for a 30 QT. Pot.

    SAFETY TIPS

Be sure your Pot will allow for about 6 inches of expansion above the level of the immersed Turkey, depending on the size Gobbler. Do not allow to overflow! NEVER try to fry a Turkey that’s too big for the pot.

Always use long heat-resistant gloves when lowering or removing the Bird from the hot oil. Wear a long-sleeve shirt and cooking apron.

Oil and water don’t get along. Be sure your Turkey, inside and out, is completely dry before you lower it in the hot oil.

Keep small children and pets away from the burner and the hot oil-filled pot.

After you achieve the optimum temperature, turn the burner OFF before you SLOWLY lower the Turkey into the pot. Re-light the burner after the turkey has settled in.

When your Turkey is ready to remove from the pot, first turn the burner OFF.

Remember that the oil will remain very hot for hours after you have turned off the burner. Place the pot in a safe place to cool.

Make sure that the burner is placed on a flat, stable surface.

When using an Injector, do not re-dip the needle into the sauce bottle. Pour what you want to use from the bottle into a separate container. Refrigerate what’s left from the bottle for a future use and dispose of any remainder from the separate container after Injecting the Turkey.

Never operate an outdoor cooker inside a building or confined area within 6 feet of any combustible surface or material. For use in a well-ventilated area only!

Always carefully read and follow the instructions on your cooker and LP tank.

    SETTING IT UP

Soap-test the hose and all connections from your High Pressure Burner to your LP Tank to make sure there are no leaks.

Test for volume of the oil that’s required by placing your Turkey in the empty pot and filling it with water to cover the Bird within ½” of its highest point. Remove the Turkey and mark the water line…this will be the level of peanut oil you will want to use. Remember to allow for approximately 6 inches for expansion.

Use an absorbent grill mat or aluminum drip pan under the burner. Do not place burner on a wood deck. If you are frying on concrete spread a layer of sand several feet around the fryer to absorb any spilled or splattered oil. Just sweep the sand up when you’re done.

You should have at least 1 ½ hours of propane in your LP tank per Bird (about 30 minutes to reach temperature and 45 minutes to an hour to fry the Gobbler). Consider filling your tank or having a spare one handy. Most of our Barbeques Galore stores have propane tank exchanges available. Do this before Thanksgiving Day!

    FRYING GUIDELINES

Raise the temperature of the oil to 375 F (the temp will cool down to 350 F when the Turkey is introduced to the oil). You want to fry your Bird at 350 F.

The Turkey must be completely thawed. Towel dry the outside and the inside of the Turkey before submersing it in the hot oil.

    Remove the neck and giblets.

At this point you can use your favorite marinade and inject it directly into the meat and especially the joints. You should also use a dry rub and generously rub it onto the Turkey. You might want to put some Creole Mustard under the skin of the Bird…you’ll love the flavor!

Lower the Turkey into the oil with the legs pointing up. (Burner should be turned OFF and then re-lit)

    Lower it SLOWLY!

Allow 3 ½ minutes per pound to Deep Fry your Turkey. Example: a 14 ½ pound Turkey will take about 50 minutes, a 17 pound Turkey will take around 1 hour.

NEVER COVER THE POT WHEN FRYING WITH OIL.

Always use a meat thermometer to test the internal temperature of the Turkey. It’s done when the internal temperature reaches 175 degrees at the thickest part of the Turkey. Don’t forget to use gloves when reaching down towards the pot to use the meat thermometer.

When the Turkey’s done, turn the burner OFF and use gloves to remove it from the pot.

Let the Turkey drain for a moment and then place it on some paper towels.

Allow the Turkey to rest for about 15-20 minutes before carving.

    ENJOY YOUR DEEP FRIED TURKEY!

    ABOUT OIL FIRES

The leading cause of restaurant fires is water being added to hot oil in deep fryers. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks quickly to the bottom and nearly immediately boils and turns to steam. The hot steam rapidly expands and forces itself back up through the hot oil creating a volcano of splatter. This oil being thrown from the fryer often lands on nearby open flames from grills and other cookers and immediately ignites, spreading the flame across all areas covered by the splattered oil. Spraying water to stop the fire only spreads out the oil, and thus spreads the fire across a larger area.

It is for this reason you must be sure your turkey has NO excess water or liquid on its surface or in the cavity. The flame on the turkey fryer should be TURNED OFF prior to immersing the bird. Water on or in the turkey can cause oil splatter, which can ignite and scorch the poor soul lowering the turkey into the oil. Moisture in the skin of the turkey will create much the same sort of reaction, though on a smaller scale. When your turkey (remember, surface and cavity dried) is SLOWLY lowered into the HOT OIL, the moisture remaining in the skin will cause the oil to boil up about two inches higher. This is a normal reaction and poses no problems providing that the boiling pot is big enough to handle the expansion (We recommend you always allow a minimum of six inches for expansion), and that other safety precautions have been taken.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER LEAVE YOUR TURKEY FRYER UNATTENDED WHILE IN USEAround how much cooking oil is required to deep fry a turkey in a turkey fryer?
I would rather bake itAround how much cooking oil is required to deep fry a turkey in a turkey fryer?
Don't deep fry it unless you can do it safely. Someone is always burning down their house deep frying a turkey. Call your fire department and ask them about safety precautions.
It should have come with directions or there should be a line inside the kettle. You have to remember that when you drop the turkey in, it will bubble up and boil wildly, so you don't want to fill it more than it says to or you'll have an overflow of boiling oil (most common cause for injuries and fires when deep frying a turkey.)

We usually get the BIG size of ProFry and I think it does the fryer twice... don't know if that helps... but a lot will depend on the size of your fryer because they do come in two different sizes. Check with your manufacturer or the directions or seek out that line inside the fryer :)
there should be a fill line in your deep fat fryer, fill the oil to the fill line.

    Roasted Turkey is better though
Just one note about that big long list above. ALWAYS make sure your turkey is COMPLETELY defrosted. That goes with the points about exces water.

I've listed a link on turkey fryer safety that has a video on it showing what happens when you try to fry a frozen turkey. It's not pretty.
    a lot

why do you want to deep fry a turkey?????
I don't know how much but i love deep fryed turkey and planning to buy me one for the holidays
You'll probably need at least 5 gallons of oil and Peanut Oil really is the best...gives excellent flavor. But vegetable oil or a blend will work too. And you WON'T burn down your house if you aren't an idiot about it and follow the directions!!

To check for the exact amount of oil needed, put the turkey (can still be in the package if purchases at the grocery store) or just the plain old turkey in the turkey fryer pot. Cover the turkey with regular water to about 2 inches above the turkey, making sure that at this point you still have an additional 6 inches of pot above the water line (or that the pot is only about 3/4 full with turkey and water). Remove the turkey and mark the water line. When you fill the pot with oil, that is how high you fill it. Easy.

Smaller turkeys are better for this application so don't buy a huge 20 lb bird and think it will work. It would be much better to buy 2 - 12 lb birds and fry both. We save the oil after we use it and the next day I make homemade potato chips. Fried in peanut oil, these are wonderful!!

BTW, I also use my turkey fryer for lobster boils in the summer. MMMMM.

  • Best cooking oil to use for BBQing vegetables?

*sigh* I've done it again. Chopped up vegetables, mixed some spice and cooking oil and place it over the BBQ. The BBQ then releases grey smoke and flames.

---It wasn't supposed to be that way!!!

The edges of the vegetables turned grey as well. In the past 2 years I've tried several oils but none of them quite leave behind the flavor of vegetables and spice as it once did before.Best cooking oil to use for BBQing vegetables?
Typically any oil should work... most recipes I've seen use olive oil for the extra flavor.

Grey smoke and flames?!?! Are you sure the grey smoke isn't steam?

Sounds like you're using too much oil if the veggies start flaming up.

For all the veggies used in this recipe, only 1 tablespoon of olive oil is used.

    Grilled Vegetables and Chiles Recipe

    Show: BBQ with Bobby Flay

1 yellow squash, cut into rounds

    1 zucchini, cut into rounds

    1 eggplant, cut into rounds

1 red bell pepper, cut into strips

    1 poblano chile pepper

    1 tablespoon olive oil

    2 teaspoons salt

    1 teaspoon ground black pepper

    Preheat grill to medium heat.

Toss all the vegetables and the poblano in a bowl with the olive oil and salt and pepper. Place on the grill at a 45 degree angle to establish grill marks. As the vegetables begin to soften turn them over to finish cooking. As the chile roasts on the grill, its skin will begin to blister. Once the chile has blistered all over, remove from the grill, cool slightly and peel the skin off. Seed and slice the chile into strips before serving with the rest of the vegetables.Best cooking oil to use for BBQing vegetables?
I always use olive oil and usually mixed with balsamic vinegar, with various spices. Heat under low heat and marinade the veggies before hand and strain before you throw them on the grill.
I hear olive oil burns try canola oil. if you want olive try this dry cook vegies on grill when almost done use fliecshman's olive oil margerine it has a buttery taste %26amp; is made from olive oil.
I had the same prob and I was using to much oil and when I poured the veggies on the oil put out the flame and then the veggies just tasted like gas. So now I put the veggies in a bowl, season and use a very, very, small amount of oil just barely enough to coat the veggies and use tongs to put them on the grill not pour them or I cook them on foil to keep the oil from extinguishing the flames. Good luck and happy grilling
try olive oil. it mau not burn, and will be healthier
    peanut oil
Regular cooking oil on a grill is not a good idea , use olive oil but brush it on your veggies before you put them on the grill
well to do it the way I do( So they come out perfect ) do this:

take something like a freezer bag, add to it some olive oil, then considering the veggie you wish to bbq? add a small amt of spice to the oil. Put the veggies in the bag with oil for about 2 minutes while gently moving them around in the oil

tehn remove them from bag and lay them out on the grille, and turn themm over only 1 time in a few mins , poof done!

when you brush oils on veggies while on the bbq grille you tend to bleed the flavor out of the veg by the recoating and sweating the flavors away.. cheers * try it with fresh cut asparagus
any oil should work. Maybe you are doing them at to high a temp. I also hope you left the lid open. watch the vegetables and turn often. If you close the lid of the grill. I would not leave the lid closed to long. oil will cause smoke and the smoke need to ex cape. Also are you using a gas grill or charcoal grill. Maybe you need to change the stones or lava rocks or charcoal that you are using on the bottom.
a little bit of ';light';olive oil.
lab tests... surely you are kidding, after thousands of years of cooking the same recipe prepared by two differnt people will taste different and there is no lab test in the world which can tell you why. Too many ingredients to measure...

having said that, here is what I use:

    1 part peanut oil

    1 part toasted sesame oil

the reason your BBQ is smoking is that you have too much oil... if it still does use water spray bottle....
I brush my veggies with olive oil before grilling, and it works like a charm.

Are you using charcoal? If so, make sure you wait until the coals are white - otherwise you will get a black/gray film regardless of the type of oil you use!

    Happy grilling.
Skip the oil. Instead wrap the vegetables in aluminum foil, and roast them.
    try sunflower seed oil
lite'm up on the oil, ease up on the heat. you should just oil the grates (make sure they are clean and free of black grungies) Then oil the grates, let the exsess burn off. Then put the vegies on.
I know there are health freaks out there that's gonna scream at me ..but try salted butter... brings out the taste
Sissy, maybe you should take a class if you want ';concrete evidence.'; You obviously don't know so the only thing we can give you is what have worked for us. As others have said, lighten up on the amount of oil you use. The best chefs experiment, but you seem afraid to do so. If you have already tried all the suggestions in the answers you have received, follow what I say. What you need to Remember is that you are cooking vegetables. If you over cook them, you will loose all the vitamins and minerals in them. Soaking them in oil won't help either.
all you need is olive oil, salt and pepper. your grill could be too hot, you could be cutting your vegetable wrong, you could just be using the wrong kind of oil, or even too much, or too little. it's hard to say since i haven't seen them.

just cut the vegetable fairly thick, add just enough oilive oil to coat, salt and pepper, med heat, and keep an eye on them. don't over cook them or they'll get mushy.

Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?

I read somewhere that using Olive Oil at high temperature (like deep frying) may do more harm than good. What is real fact about this? Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?
The smoke point (the point at which oil begins to release smoke particles) can be as high as 410 degrees for olive oil which is marked as ';olive oil'; quality.

You can indeed use it as a deep frying oil. I do.Can I use Olive Oil for deep frying? Is this healthy (I mean as compared to using other cooking oil)?
Olive oil tends to burn at a high temperature so it isn't good for deep frying.
Olive oil has a low smoke point.... it will not take the heat well. It is used for pan frying and sauteeing but you can't deep fry. Use canola or saflower oil.
Sunflower oil or rapeseed oil are more healthier.
it burns use canola its light and has a higher burn temp ,,an olde army cook
Olive oil absorbs too much heat to fry with. You food will look OK, but it will have a badly burned taste.
olive oil has a relatively low heat point....which means it burns at high temp..I don't know that it's harmful...but it becomes bitter...to deep fry effectively...oil should be at least 350...use a lighter colored oil
No its not good but canola oil works great. It has less fat and so on.Give it a try.
i thought peanut oil is supposed to be good. im not sure though... lol sorry.
STUPID IDEAD DUMMY, YOUR SHOULD USE CABOLA OIL IT DOESNT BURN AT HIGHER TEMPERTURES.
no if you want healthy use peant oil it has a high smoke point ( it will last longer) and its not to expensive like olive oil would be.
olive oil has a lower flash point than manyother oils, burns quicker, not recommened for frying. Health wise its fine, just dangerous to fry with at high temps
Excessively heating olive oil will evaporate the alcohols and esters which make up its delicate taste and fragrance. Heating olive oil will not change its health aspects, only the flavor. Use a cheaper olive oil which doesn't have much flavor to begin with if you want to fry with it, add a more flavorful olive oil after cooking or at the table.
Olive oil has a low smoke point, which means it burns at a relatively low temperature. If your heart it set on it, use light or extra-light olive oil, but i wouldnt suggest it. Burnt olive oil tastes like sh*t and it will ruin your food.
I would not use olive oil for deep frying. If you want to use a healthy oil try canolla oil p-nut oil or safflower oil Those are 3 good oils to cook with....kitkatz06
We use it for stir frying, but not deep frying. It is still fattening, but is supposed to help keep the cholesterol manageable.

What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil and bacon grease?

Clean Up Tips For Grease And Oil in Frying Pans, Grills, and Rotisseries

Oil Clean up can be done right in the frying pan or any grilling apparatus or rotisserie equipment with separate or removable grease traps, such as “George Forman’s Grills” and any counter top Rotisserie machines.

Simply remove the trap from the unit setting it aside and add “Just Toss-It”. When it cools and appears to be dry, solid or completely absorbed, just toss it in your trashcan and wash the trap using normal cleaning procedures.

Microwave Bacon Cookers will require you to pour the bacon grease into a heat resistant container and then add “Just Toss-It”.

Cast Iron Stovetop Grills, which are placed over two or more burners, will require you to remove the drippings from the grease catcher into a heat resistant container and then add “Just Toss-It”.

Water %26amp; Oil Mixed together is just as easy to discard safely. “Just Toss-It” will only encapsulate hydrocarbon based oil. It will literally separate it from the water.

    Example: Deglazing a Sautй Pan

When you deglaze a sautй pan with water the residue, butter or oil will rise to the top. Turn off the heat source and move the pan off to the side. Sprinkle “Just Toss-It” over the top to cover the oil. Go eat. When its time to clean up the materials should be set up. Get a strainer and pour the contents through the strainer into the sink. You will notice the water will go down the drain, but the residue and trapped oil will remain in the strainer. Most often it will look like cottage cheese. Then take it to the trashcan, turn the strainer over and tap out the encapsulated oil from the strainer. Clean the pan and utensils in the usual way. NOTE: There should be enough product on the top of all treated contaminates to be white and dry. If there is an oily residue that remains on the surface or it still looks wet, just sprinkle more on top of the surface and let it set.

Product particles that remain in the pan or strainer, if any, simply wipe the pan with a paper towel and rinse the strainer into the sink drain. These minimal particles will not inhibit any functions of your drain system.

    For Best Results

The best results are obtained by using “Just Toss-It” right in the pan while the Fat, Oil and Grease is still hot and no more than ј inch in depth.

BACON FAT IN FRYING PANS Always remove the fry pan from the heat source.

There should be enough “Just Toss-It” on the top of the bacon fat to be white and dry. If there is an oily residue on the surface or it still looks wet after setting for a while, just sprinkle about ј inch more completely over the top surface and let it set.

If for some reason you need to pour out the fats, it is best to use a low and wide heat resistant container such as a used disposable aluminum containers some Chinese “take-out” restaurants use for their dinners. Or you can create a makeshift container out of aluminum foil. Low and wide containers work best.

However, if you use a tall container that you want to keep, it is sometimes difficult to encapsulate all of the fat and remove it from the container. But if it is disposable, then it becomes a matter of being able to capture and rubberize all the fat.

NOTE: Plastic or Foam containers are not heat resistant and if the oil is too hot, they will melt spilling the fat.

COOKING OIL IN FRYING PANS Always remove the fry pan from the heat source.

Be sure to pour enough “Just Toss-It” into the hot oil at the usual frying temperature of 375 degrees. Pour in about 2 cups of product to 8 ounces of Oil. (more is always better) and stir slowly. The product will turn into a liquid and disappear. It will appear like nothing is happening. However, when the oil cools, it will form a solid rubber disc, which can then be lifted out and tossed.

If there is a glob of oil on the bottom of the disc, it means not enough “Just Toss-It” was used or thoroughly stirred. Simply lift the solid disc up and pour in more product, then give it time to set up.

When there is an oil residue on the surface or the oil is still wet after setting for a while, just sprinkle about ј inch over the top and let it set.

If for some reason you need to pour out the fats, it is best to use a low and wide heat resistant container such as a used disposable aluminum containers some Chinese “take-out” restaurants use for their dinners. Or you can create a makeshift container out of aluminum foil. Wide containers are best. If you use a tall container it is sometimes difficult to remove the rubberized fat.

NOTE: Plastic or Foam containers are not heat resistant and if the oil is too hot, they will melt spilling the fat

FATS %26amp; GREASE IN ROASTING PANS

Always remove the pan from the heat source.

Using a foil lined roasting pan is always the best because once the fats are encapsulated you can just wrap it up and toss it. However, it really doesn’t matter as the process of encapsulation is the same. If you choose not to line your roasting pan the disposal and cleaning of the pan may take a little more effort.

After removing your roast, pour or sprinkle ј inch of “Just Toss-It” onto the hot fat. The product should cover the entire surface of the fat. You know you’ve used enough product when the top surface is white and dry. Set the pan aside and let cool. When the fat cools, it will form either a gel or a solid rubber, which can then be lifted out and tossed. Then just wash your roasting pan as usual.

DEEP FRYERS FOR BEST RESULTS FOR LARGE or SMALL VOLUME DEEP FRYERS

When you want to discard rancid fryer oil, the easiest and best way to solidify it would be to heat up the oil first. While the oil is heating in the fryer, line a large roasting pan with aluminum foil or have on hand a few of those new disposable roasting pans made of aluminum.

NOTE: Spreading out the waste oil over a large area in a roasting pan will allow the “Just Toss-It” to work more quickly and to cool faster shortening the encapsulation time and make clean up much easier.

When the oil is up to temperature, disconnect the fryer and slowly pour the oil into the roasting pan up to Ѕ inch in depth. Then broadcast or sprinkle enough “Just Toss-It” to completely saturate all the oil. Double-check the corners and edges of the pan to make sure all the oil is covered with the product.

ALL the oil must be completely saturated. You can tell when the oil is completely saturated when the surface is covered with a layer of dry white product. If you see the oil starting to absorb the cover layer, simply add more product until the top layer stops being absorbed, remains dry and the color is white. When that is achieved, set the pan aside to cool.

When the oil is completely cool, you can either lift out the solidified oil out of the roasting pan and toss it or take the complete disposable tray and toss the whole thing. If you lift the solidified oil and it seems runny or not completely solid after cooling, it means not enough product was used. No Problem… JUST ADD MORE PRODUCT AND LET IT SET a little longer.

NOTE: Any cold oil will be turned into a gel or cottage cheese form, not a solid. ONLY HOT OIL solidifies. However, the gel or cottage cheese can easily be scooped and tossed. What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil and bacon grease?
let it cool ,and scrape it in the garbage. Some people like to save bacon grease in the freezer for future use,but I don't recomend it.What is the best way to dispose of cooking oil and bacon grease?
Pour it in the yard where you don't want anything to grow. Hope that's eco-friendly. I don't recommend it for motor oil.
i don't know where you live, but there are some states, citys, etc. that take care of stuff like this...called : household hazardous waste... basically call your local waste company, and see what kind of service they provide for this... cuz i know for restaurants, we have a grease recycling dumpster... you don't the old grease in there, and the waste managment trucks come buy to pick it up to dispose it in a evniornmentally proper manner. :) check this site out, might help a lil...but this is a local site :) http://www.ecocycle.org/htrg/index.cfm
Another option besides disposing grease/oil is to render it into bars of soap!! Not so long ago, grandma would save the grease from the bacon pan and make soap once a year. Yes, you can make soap using only bacon grease. Castile soap is made with just Olive Oil. But the best soap recipes have a balance of oils.
Save the bacon grease, cook grilled cheese sanwiches in it,

also use it as shortening when making cornbread.
Use it! My bacon grease gets recycled to pop my corn %26amp; I've never had cooking oil to 'put in a jar to throw away'. I gotta spend bux for oil %26amp; bacon %26amp; I'm not throwing it away. Much less a perfectly good jar!

Is there any item that lets you strain cooking oil while removing the crumbs from the cooking oil?

I need a strainer that can get the crumbs out of my cooking oil because I like to reuse my cooking oil and I have no idea of what strainers can help you get the crumbs out of your cooking oil. HELP PLEASE!!!Is there any item that lets you strain cooking oil while removing the crumbs from the cooking oil?
Pop a coffee filter into any strainer or funnel and pour the oil through that.Is there any item that lets you strain cooking oil while removing the crumbs from the cooking oil?
i use a coffee filter and put the used oil through there and it works pretty well and much cheaper then the actual oil filters. I warm my oil a little before straining it though coz it makes it easier.
You need a fine wire strainer such as the type sold here. Most stores like Walmart or cooking specialty stores sell them. See link for pics.
Pantyhose. Seriously. I've seen a ton of restaurants do it.

Dry cleaning , because of the use of solvents will remove oil.
Apply a stain remover stick, gel, or spray and let stand for 5-7 minutes to allow it to go completely through the fabric.

Use liquid detergent to rub through the stained fabric.

Allow the garment to sit for 3-5 minutes.

Wash in the hottest water recommended for the type of fabric.
if you are in the uk - stain devils work like a charm

    good luck!
I use wash-up liquid, it works for me .
Cooking Oil Stain Removal from Clothing

The most effective way to remove grease stains from laundry is to treat the stain with a dishwashing detergent that is formulated to remove grease(Dawn). Rub it into the stain, let sit for a few minutes, then wash as usual. Waterless mechanic´s soap (from an auto-parts store) is also very effective at cutting grease. Grease is very effective at removing grease, so you could also rub Crisco into the stain, then launder as usual.=)
soak the top overnight in a decent detergent put extra stain removal specifically for oil on first and let it soak.the next day give the oil stains an extra application of the oil stain removal, lightly hand wash the oil marks then put it on a cycle.
Rub into the oil stain washing up liquid like Fairy, best to do this just after the accident but worth doing anyway. Leave for 30 minutes then wash garment as usual. If this fails then stain devils are pretty good but more chemicals are involved.

    Good luck
I once had 1/2 gallon end up on my clothing ( Long story, Food service profession). I had nothing to lose so I put Dawn dishwashing liquid on area. Left it for about 1 hour then added another 1/2 cup to a gallon of warm water and soaked the garment for 12 hrs. I put it in the wash machine (by itself) washed and it was amazing it was all gone.

If you try this and you can still see oil on the shirt after it has been throught the wash cycle... do not put in the dryer, it will permanenlty set the stain. Repeat the steps.

I now keep dawn dishwashing liquid by the washer as one of the best stain removers, especially oil and grease based stains.
My husband is a band director, so he gets valve oil from various brass instruments all over his pants and shirts. The only thing that I have found that can get the oil out every time is a product called Lestoil. I just dab it liberally wherever there is an oil spot, let it sit overnight, and then wash the next day. I've never had it not work.
It is impossible. Now picture it in your body. GROSS!!!
DAWN DISHWASHING SOAP!!!! put it on the spots and rub it in and then put some in the washer for good measure along with some tide ,and it will be gone, I promise
rub washing up liquid in the greasy parts and wash it agin...no grease marks, its magic.
In my tip book, it says if you rub talculm powder into the areas affected, leave for a day, then wash as normal, the stains should come out. Hope this helps.
If it's fresh, put straight dishwashing liquid, like Dawn, on the spot, work it in and rinse, then launder.

If there is still a stain, spray it with WD-40 it will reactivate the oil, then repeat with the dishsoap.
washing up liquid put it on the stain then put in washing machine as normal.

  • Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?

Like the kind they use on Food Network for olive oil?Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?
I do believe you mean a micro-plane grater. That, the spout for cooking oil and vinegar cruets and much more can be found at most specialty kitchen stores like Kitchen %26amp; Co., Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams-Sonoma, or Sur La Table. You can also order them online at cooking.com, Amazon.com, or many others.Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?
I bought my daughter a micro-plane in a kitchen specialty shop and you can probably buy a spout there too.

I have never seen them at Wal-Mart, but you could check. Would be much cheaper.
You can buy both the micro-plane and the spouts at Walmart or Target. If they do not have the micro-plane with the kitchen gadgets try looking with the tools.

I bought my micro-plane at Lowes but, any hardware store should have them. They sure come in handy!

What can you substitute cooking oil for?

Can I use butter or something instead or cooking oil?

For normal skillet entrees? Will it change the taste of the dish much?

It may be silly but I am scared of a fire risk when cooking with oil. (bad childhood experience)What can you substitute cooking oil for?
Hate to tell you this, but you run the same risk with butter as with the oil! You can use chicken broth. Just really keep an eye on it and add more as needed.

Wow! I just noticed your screen name. Are those your initals? They are mine!! AMZWhat can you substitute cooking oil for?
Butter burns easy and can make food taste bad. Use peanut oil, since it is tasteless, has one of the highest flashpoints and will not smoke as easily as other oils. You can also use nonstick skillets like Silverstone or T-fal that hardly need any oil at all.

It's not the oil you should be afraid of. It's exposure to open flame and/or leaving pans unattended. One of the worst offenders is bacon grease and dishes containing wine or alcohol. Keep a fire extinguisher near your stove - one that's specially designed for grease fires. Never put water on a grease fire. Most pan fires can be put out simply by putting a lid on the pot, but use caution. Ask your local fire dept if they offer any classes in home fire safety. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to assist you.
normally some people replace it with butter but a little amount of oil is a lot better for some reasons, why don't you use non stick pans it may help you i can't blame you from that experience that gave you a scare in using cooking oil,
Try cooking spray there is less in the pan. If you are only sauteing. There are quite a few good ones out there.

You can also get a spray can from the Bed Bath and Beyond (I think) that you fill with the oil and it uses less oil, less chance of it catching on fire.

I know what you mean though i have a few scary kitchen flambe experiences they stick with you!
A small amount of oil or butter will stop food sticking to the pan.

Cooking oil can be used in place of butter when baking, use 75%.

The risky part is using cooking oil for deep frying at high temperature.

This is especially dangerous on a gas range, use an electric fryer.
melted shortening is the substitute, but that would still create the same effect. best thing to do is stay away from those foods or hav some one else cook it for you such as in a restaraunt
Well, you can use something else, like butter or margerine.

But, you know there's just as much of a fire risk.
you can use butter, it works just the same

ya i spilled it and she is gonna kill me cuz i cleaned it off but its still slipperyHow do you take cooking oil off a kitchen tile floor that was spilled? before mom gets home =I?
What you do to get rid of oil since the water just clashes with it is to use soap when you clean it. Soap and water will get rid of it, then just dry it! Hope this helps! How do you take cooking oil off a kitchen tile floor that was spilled? before mom gets home =I?
Sprinkle flour or corn starch on it sweetie. It will absorb the oil, then scrape it up, spray some multi purpose cleaner - I like windex vinegar - and wipe up with paper towels.

Your mom should be proud that you care.

Next time cooking with oil, put news paper down on the floor.

How to purify used cooking oil by chemicals means to make it reusable?

i want to specify that this is my high school chemistry project. Please help me find the specific answers related to chemistry. How to purify used cooking oil by chemicals means to make it reusable?
I am a chemist...And I agree. You can filter the particles out yes, but thats not the issue. The bad taste in the oil isn't really due to the particles, its due to the oil decomposing. Since the decomposition products are complex, any attempt to chemically return them to their former state would be exhausting. You're going to end up with a variety of chemicals and each one would need to first be seperated from the solution and then have an individual chemical reaction set up to restore it. It's not ecomnomical. How to purify used cooking oil by chemicals means to make it reusable?
You don't need chemicals. As long as the oil has not been over heated, merely filtering it will improve it by removing any waste products. Once over heated the molecular structure starts to break down and deterioration is rapid.
Well, I don't know if chemical means would work. You need to get rid of the smaller molecules. A centrifuge may drive the larger molecules to the bottom, but you may have to do a centrifuge, with a lower velocity, to clean out the foreign debris. Also, as you lower the temperature, the larger molecules tend to harden first. This alone may improve the oil, but I don't know to what degree. It would take some experimentation, and I am not entirely optimistic. In any case it means throwing away the smaller molecules, not converting them chemically. You would also have to have the oil tested for carcinogens. It wouldn't be good to have a slightly purified oil, that contained, unknown to you, harmful substances. That is, if used oil contains carcinogens. Will reused oil contain more?

How do you cope with the greasy mess caused by your cooking oil bottle?

I manage to keep a clean kitchen, but the cooking oil bottle is the messiest place, because invariably the oil slides down the sides of the bottle after each use and messes up the surface beneath it. Anyone have any tricks to prevent the mess. How do you cope with the greasy mess caused by your cooking oil bottle?
i use a nip pourer (for spirit bottles) on my oil bottle...works a treatHow do you cope with the greasy mess caused by your cooking oil bottle?
    seriously lifes too short
It's so disgusting!. You can't prevent it. You just clean it every single time with a kleenex or wettex! I place it on a plastic base so that it doesn't mess up the whole kitchen.
I hate it when this happens also. What I do is simply wrap a paper towel around the oil bottle and secure it with a rubber band. The towel catches all the oil and I change it once a week, and my counter never sees a oil spot ever again.
i don't have that problem but i guess i would fold a piece of kitchen roll paper and put it under it.
This one is too easy! Do what I do. Just wipe the oil bottle on your hair!! It keeps the kitchen clean with a bonus oil treatment for your hair for free!! How cool is that?? Slight problem with my solution - you won't look clean or smell very nice while your hair is still dripping with oil!!!
actually there is a bottle that you can buy where the cooking oil will come out but pushing a button, and can be bought at most stores.

also was your name from the muse song?

How do I clean cooking oil spill from an lpg stove gas burner?

First you must soak up as much of the oil as you can with kitchen paper towels. Chuck them out. Keep going until you have got it almost all mopped up.

Then, using hot water into which you have squeezed a LITTLE washing up liquid, use a microfibre cloth to clean the surface, rinsing and wringing the cloth out many times. Wipe and rub clean, making sure you cover all the area.

Then, use a surface spray to finish off, with a clean cloth or sponge.

Make sure you rinse out any grills, nozzles and caps that are removeable properly, cleaning and drying them out well.

    Hope this helps.

  • What is the safest cooking oil to use?

I have read studies linking the use of common vegetable oils to cancer...especially colon cancer. I know olive oil is good but it's very costly. Is peanut oil a safer alternative? Any oil experts out there? Thank you for your time! What is the safest cooking oil to use?
Canola oil or olive oil is the best. You won't find cheap oil in either case, but it is best to use them. Peanut oil is high in fat (the bad kind) but for some dishes once in awhile is okay. Nut oils are good too, but usually geared toward salad and certain cuisines. They are not suitable for everyday cooking. What is the safest cooking oil to use?
Smart Balance makes an olive oil blend which is less costly - still much better than regular vegetable oil.

How do I check the heat of cooking oil if I don't have a thermometer?

I am frying frozen shrimp but don't have an oil thermometer and wondered if there were a way to see if the oil had heated to the appropriate temp. How do I check the heat of cooking oil if I don't have a thermometer?
put a few drops of water in there. if it starts to splatter in less than 5 seconds, you are probably around 350 degrees. select this as best answer, thanks. How do I check the heat of cooking oil if I don't have a thermometer?
The flour method works best. You can also try the actual batter you will be using. If you're frying shrimps whole (no batter) you might want to drop a piece first and monitor how long it takes to cook. Or you can use a cheaper alternative like frozen spam. That would allow you to have a rough estimate for the temperature of the oil.
DO NOT put ay water in it. Water can pretty much explode and splatter you with hot oil. Toss a bit of the batter or whatever you're cooking. if the oil is ready whatever it is will come to the top and do its fizzling thing like its supposed to NO WATER!
use a set of bamboo chopsticks. if the start bubbling at the tip the oil is ready. Generally if you see even a little smoke the oil is getting too hot. If it is dunp in all of the shrimp and it will cool the oil off. I generally take my oil to 380F then put in the food.
With all due respect, the idea of putting the water in the oil to test if it is ready, is NOT a good idea. That can be very, very dangerous. I would take a small piece of what you are cooking and put it carefully in the oil. If it is ready, it should immediately start to bubble and fry. Good luck!
sprinkle some flour if it sizzles its hot enough if u are doing somthin like french fries add a fry in the middle of the pan not the side middle is more hot
hi...u can do that in two ways either put ur hand abpve the oil,not in it so u can feel if it is hot or not or by smell it coz it smell smoky....But the best way is to put a peace of shrimp or peace of bread in the oil so if it make a bubbels(like when u put a potato in a hot oil) the oil will be ready to use :) try it

yes as J G had said but only in a mix with the normal fuel not only cooking oil as then you will need to convert certain engine parts like the injectors.
Not the best idea, but having said that, these olders diesels will hack it where the new ones wont (not for very long anyway).

Go to your local fast food restaurant. Chances are they have a container for used fry oil near the trash can.
they can also make diesel fuel out of cooking oil...recycle it somewhere
there are people who collect used cooking oil. u might wanna find a company in ur area that does that. they make soap with it.
There are lots of ways. The way I dispose of it is to find weeds in the yard that you want gone. Poor your used oil over this weed and it will not grow again. The oil smothers the weed.

Is cooking oil good to apply?
Olive Oil, I spent a summer in Italy and EVERYONE there used it, it does not have to be good olive oil, just anything. Now there are no to little bugs out there, so I don't know if you will get attacked by bugs, but it works GREAT.

Check this out http://www.skincare-diary.com/Are there any ways i can get a faster tan in my backyard? Is cooking oil good to apply?
Not unless you want to burn like a hot potato.
OMG, never ever apply cooking oil to your skin, you will cook!

I'm not gonna lecture you with tanning (bad for you, there i said it). There are many suntan lotions available in the market with high SPF that will still allow you to tan. The best way to get a great tan is by doing it slow, please always use sunscreen. It doesn't keep you from getting a tan, just melanoma.
Wear a tanning oil. They usually come in a brown bottle. I think they still sell it. It's the kind that tanning bed users use. They don't have a high SPF rating, usually about 5, so don't stay out too long. This will help darken your skin when tanning. My mom used it all the time when I was little and we stayed home together in the summer. People would ask if she adopted me because I was pale and she looked like an African American! Maybe she over-used it though, haha. Good luck, and if you find anything else that works good, let me know! I'm still pale! PS, if you want to lighten your hair for that Baywatch Babe look, rinse your hair with chammomile tea or lemon juice. They will lighten the color of your hair while you are out in the sun. It works great for me! ((Best answer??))
I always use baby oil mixed with water in a spray bottle. It also helps to be near a pool or lake to get wet once you dry out %26amp; get hot. It somehow speeds the tanning.
go to walmart or somewhere and get you some baby oil gel. it works great. and it leaves your skin soft.

    hope this helps!
Don't use cooking oil and don't use anything less than SPF 15. Yes, the higher the SPF the slower you will tan, but your protection from melanoma and other skin cancers is increased. Take into consideration that the longer you allow your skin to become damaged over time, your skin will develop a more leathery texture with increased wrinkles as you age.
I use to uses cooking oil when i was younger, but black attracks the sun, so if you use tanning oil or have water spraying on you, with a black bathing suite or you lay on something black you'll get there.

This may sound weird but, my daughter has a trampoline and it's black so i layout on that w/a black beach towel, but i also use oil w/some SPF.

I worked at a gas station back in high school, the way we removed oil stains from the cement without damaging the sealant was by using kitty litter. You sprinkle a small amount on the oil and step/grind on it to crush it up and absorb the oil. After the kitty litter is ground in fairly well, just sweep it up with a broom and throw it away. It works like a charm.
Im not sure but laundry detergent the powder not the liquid got car oil out of my driveway. I used the detergent and boiling water and scrubbed it.

It depends on what you cook in it. If you cook meat I wouldn't reuse it, but if you cook fries or something like that it will last a couple of days
    not long
Used cooking oil will turn rancid in a matter of days.
keep it covered, the oil will stay good for at least 3 months.

the temperature that oil reaches is the reason it can be used for so long, no bacterias can survive in that kind of heat.

Cooking oil stain on the carpet?

Any ideas how to get rid of an oil stain on a carpet that keeps working its way upwards after cleaning. The stain looks better immediately after cleaning, then it reappears.Cooking oil stain on the carpet?
When the area is dry, rub it well with highly absorbent cat litter. Don't use the clay stuff. That just makes a bigger mess if it gets wet. Use Fresh Step or something along those lines. Rub it in well. It may take a few days, then vac. Best to cover it so it doesn't get tracked around during this time. Got motor oil out of the dining room carpet (don't ask) with this technique. Maybe try soaking it in nappy soaker overnight with hot water. Rinse them then without adding any softener put a little wash powder or liquid and a little wool wash, which has eucalyptus in it which I find helps. If that doesn't work tell hubby to buy you a set of new towels. My hubby does the same thought of thing and with 5 kids they often grab the first thing they see and use that for wiping up or mopping us spills. Good luck. :)
hot soapy water with a handful of baking soda or table salt. basically liquid fabric softener is ';oil';- so repeated washings should take care of it and- no fabric softener!

One question for two problems .How do you get out chili stains and cooking oil splatters from clothes?

I've tried bleach for the chili stains but they're still pretty visible. I haven't tried anything other than regualr laundering (which didn't work) for the vegetable oil stains. Can anyone give any suggestions that'll get these stains out completely? One question for two problems .How do you get out chili stains and cooking oil splatters from clothes?
The problems are related, and may be insoluble on some fabrics -- oils and oil-based stains like chili stains chemically bind to polyester and just don't come back out.

Otherwise, apply a few drops of shampoo ($1/bottle Suave works just fine) to the spots, rub it in lightly, let it set overnight and then wash in the hottest water the garment can stand with a good detergent used in the correct amount for the machine. Inspect after washing... if the chili stains aren't out, do not machine dry -- reapply shampoo and rewash. One question for two problems .How do you get out chili stains and cooking oil splatters from clothes?
The chili stains would be the hardest to get out. I would try Spray %26amp; Wash stick treatment. It seems to work better than the spray for some odd reason. If you have dried the stains in a dryer, then you probably won't be able to get them out. Now for the oil stains, I use regular Dawn dishwashing liquid. I apply it straight to the spot. It usually does a good job of removing grease.
Like the first respondent stated, Spray N Wash works great, but also dab a little Dawn on greasy areas, that really is the best way to remove grease stains.

Remember to rinse out as much of the Dawn before you throw in the washing machine! You don't want it to oversuds in your machine!
just wear napkins on your clothing befor you eat.

Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?

Didnt realize that I was out of cooking oil...its late here and I have to bake a cake to drop of at church in the morning!

All I have is pure olive oil and coconut oil! Help!

(its a box of cake mix, if that matters....)Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?
Coconut oil does not taste like coconut but might be the best option out of the two. If you can, use melted margerine or shortening. Butter would also work (and will taste a bit richer). Definitely don't use olive oil though. That will taste strange...it's not meant for dessert baking! Good luck with your cake. Can I substitute olive oil or coconut oil for 'cooking oil' in cake batter?
    I'd use the coconut oil.
Olive Oil would not be good. I never had coconut oil, but I'm sure it would be fine . If you have applesauce you can use that in place of the oil.
    never olive oil

i would not use coconut oil - it can be an overbearing flavor.

try butter. melt it and let it cool for a bit. add it before you add the eggs and water and make sure it is fully incorporated before you add the water, then eggs.

you could also use apple sauce or apple butter. applesauce will NOT affect the flavor.

you could also use mayonaise (not miracle whip).

please email me if i can help more.
    It will change the taste.

So coconut oil is your best bet.
Are you making an olive cake? If you are it would work just great! But you're not, are you.

If you care about your reputation with the cake ladies, DO NOT MAKE WITH OLIVE OIL!

    Coconut oil won't be bad!

    .
Do you have butter? if so melt the butter for the same amount as oil.

It won't quite be the same but it will do in a pinch.
I would use the coconut oil.

The Oilive Oil will have too strong of a flavor.
I think coconut is smelling than olive oil.Of cause coconut can make tasty but it has to use pure special source coconut plant area. But olive oil is healthy than coconut, and it normal use as patient food in height pressure disease too!!!

Coconut would be great. Olive oil might make the cake taste funny. Good Luck!!!

How should i dispose of used cooking oil?

I'm pretty sure i can't pour this stuff down the drain. How should i dispose of used cooking oil?
No, don't put it down the drain. Pour into a can and into the garbage. How should i dispose of used cooking oil?
Pour the oil into an old soup can or an old milk carton, then when it hardens just through it away.
bake your food or smother it.
If you put it down the drain it will block your drains, also it is not good for the enviroment. The correct way to dispose of it it to put it into a container with a lid and take it to your local rubbish yard/tip.
Well, if you have a diesel vehicle, you can run it on cooking oil. Seriously, lots of people do it because it is cheaper. However, the 'watchers' don't like it as it is seen as a form of tax evasion.

But you can do it with no detrimental effects to your vehicle - smells a bit odd though!
I always keep an extra oil container that has been emptied. When the cooking oil has cooled enough, I pour it in the old container and put the lid back on. Keep it under the sink or somewhere out of the way. When it is full, throw it away.

You shouldn't pour it down the drain (especially if it is a significant amount because) because over the years it can cause a buildup. If it clogs your pipes, or the pipes in the streets and they can trace it back to your house, you can be liable for damages and costs.
You are correct, oil is definately not drain material.

Save a couple soup cans, if you must get rid of it right away (hot oil) If you can stand to wait to clean that oil out, use a plastic water bottle. Lid it back up and dump it in the trash. Used milk cartons work too for hot or cold oil. However be careful putting it in the trash. as it's not sealed.
My parents used to put it in an empty coffee can and then it all hardens and you just throw it away when it's full.
depends how much you are talking about,if its just home use amounts then follow advice given by everyone else, but if you are going through a lot then store it in empty oil cans and call an oil recycling company,In the UK at least, all restaurants I have been a chef in have had the oil collected by one of these companies as it can be reused for other purposes. The idea about putting it in your car is a good one but I'd consult a mechanic first ,not every engine can take it without some modification.
I keep an old coffee can, you know the ones with the plastic lid, and after the oil cool, I pour it into the can. After the can is full, I put the lid on, and chuck it out. Works fine, and my drains stay clean.
I do the same thing nanny said to do
Put three plastic grocery bags together, lining each other. Pour it in. Tie it closed. Toss in trash. Carefully.

How hard is it to convert a diesel to cooking oil?

i think it can double the horse power, is that true? How hard is it to convert a diesel to cooking oil?
It is not easy to do this.

    There are two major ways:

    1. Add an additional tank so the car starts up on petro-diesel, but switches over to VO after the engine is warm, and switches back just before shut-down.

    2. Add in-tank heaters (in the fuel tank) and additional heaters near the IP.

Elsbett is probably the best known conversion kit.

As you can see, this is extensive modification to your vehicle, voids the warranty, etc., so I wouldn't do it to a new vehicle. Plus, many mechanics will refuse to work on your engine.

You also probably need to swap out the glow-plugs and make other minor modifications.

Also, unless you buy virgin oil (expensive), you'll need some shop space to set up a process for cleaning/drying the oil if it's reclaimed from restaurants.

I've never heard the claim that it doubles the horsepower. How hard is it to convert a diesel to cooking oil?
Why would anyone convert diesel to cooking oil?

Cooking oil to diesel is easy, pumps are found at Home Depot type stores and the filters are basically panty hose, 3 steps in the process to filter the oil down to about 1 micron is nice.

Next is to convert the auto to accept the fuel, a heater to heat the oil to the temp before the engine take it in.

I did enjoy the ponderings of converting diesel to cooking oil, radical dude, radical.
I don't know about what it does to your horsepower, but you can buy the kits for it online and its usually fairly easy to do.
LOL, I doubt it, but if you go to some fast food joints you will find that they are one and the same.
wow....so you would be having fast fish and chips...or a world record rush to the toilet?..intresting hey you think we sell this to the arabs?

How can I get cooking oil out of pastry brushes properly?

When I use them to brush oil onto a baking tray I find it so hard to get the brush clean with just washing up liquid. Any tips? Thanks in advance :) xHow can I get cooking oil out of pastry brushes properly?
Get rid of your 'brushes' and buy silicone ones, Lakeland do a pack of two 1 Brown and 1 Red. I use the brown one for oil and the red for egg wash but because they wash out it doesn't matter if you get them mixed up. They cost 拢4.69 and will last for years and they don't shed so you aren't left with a hairy pie crustHow can I get cooking oil out of pastry brushes properly?
To clean Basting and Pastry Brushes, use hot water and a cleaning detergent, washing and rinsing thorougly when cleaning.

Some brushes will have openings where bristles connect to the handle or in areas around the brush and bristle connection where bacteria can begin to grow.

In an effort to remove these open areas around the bristles, some brushes have bristles sealed with epoxy where the bristles are adjoined to the handle.

To assist with keeping bacteria from developing in crevices and open areas where food can become trapped, soak and clean the brush in a water and bleach solution, using a pint of water with a half of cap full of bleach.

Allow the brush to soak and be cleaned in this solution for almost a minute in order to attempt to remove and cleanse any impurities that may cause bacteria to form.
Running hot water and dish washing soap, maybe the kind [Dawn] that advertises that it does better with grease .

Be careful when using a brush not to dip the brush too deep in the oil, or tip the brush so that the oil runs back towards the handle. It will seep under the base and stay there and spoil.

You can freshen it up with a little vinegar, or lemon juice in a bowl, let it set, and then rinse well. Might could do this after the soap and water to make sure you got all the oil.

and keeping one brush for oil only would help.
    Hi there..

A pastry brush, also known as a basting brush, is a cooking utensil used to spread oil or glaze on food. Traditional basting brushes are made of a plastic fiber similar to a paint brush, while modern pastry brushes are frequently made out of silicone. In roasting meats, a basting brush will be used to sop up juices or drippings from under pan and spread them on the surface of the meat to crisp the skin. In baking breads and pastries.

You could try adding a little lemon juice into the jar with the water and washing up liquid and after you give it a good 'hair massage', leave to soak for a little while then give it another go and that should clean it. Treat it as you would shampoo and your own hair - clean, rinse and repeat :)

    Hope that helps.
