What is the proper way to dispose of cooking oil?

I know I can filter and reuse it but how do I finally get rid of the stuff. I want a 'green' answer. What is the proper way to dispose of cooking oil?
Find someone who turns it into diesel fuel that will take it for free. Alternatively, try asking you local councils environmental officerWhat is the proper way to dispose of cooking oil?
Give it to someone who has a diesel engine, they can mix it with their diesel and burn it for energy.
Put it in the container it came in and put in trash bin.
Put in a coffee can until it hardens and throw it out
put it in a container that can be sealed then put it in the trash
I read somewhere that you can throw it in with compost... Does anyone know if this is true? I know it will kill the pipes if you dump it down the sink, but is it OK to pour it out on the lawn?
Don't pour it down the drain! Put it in a plastic container and put it in the bin.
